Competition Judging Process

Each entry is judged by a panel of three judges.

First, the judges individually evaluate each entry following specified guidelines and criteria. Entries are only judged according to the criteria and are not judged against each other even if they are in the same category.

Then, to ensure consistency in judging and criteria interpretation and to eliminate individual bias, the judges perform consensus judging. During consensus judging, the three judges come to an agreement about whether the entry is to receive an award, and if so, what the award will be. The consensus judging decision is FINAL.

Those entries receiving a Distinguished award are eligible for "Best of Show" judging. There can be only one "Best of Show" entry per competition. The "Best of Show" entry is that entry which comes closest to the "ideal" in its category.

Distinguished and/or Best of Show entries are eligible for STC International Judging.
